“The Cemetery Club” by Ivan Menchell, Directed by Peter Meikle
16th – 27th June 2010
Three Jewish widows meet once a month to visit their husbands graves – each with her own humorous eccentricities, expectations and modes of survival. Sweet-tempered Ida is almost ready to begin a new life; feisty and flashy Lucille just wants to have fun; and proper Doris is fully committed to widowhood. Sam, the butcher, meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave and becomes smitten with one of them but with the arrival of Mildred the lives and loves of all are turned upside down. With tea parties, wedding parties and the occasional visit to the cemetery, The Cemetery Club is a poignant and playful tribute to the art of living, laughing and facing the challenges of growing older. There is no doubt this funny, sweet and moving play will make you glad that you came to the theatre.
Cast: Juliet McLean (Ida); Selina Mackie (Lucille); Nicci Smith (Doris); Jeff Sanders (Sam); Gloria Webby (Mildred)
