“The Woman in Black” Adapted by Stephen Mallatratt from the book by Susan Hill, Directed by Heather Harrison
27th October – 6th November 2004
The action takes place on the stage of a Victorian style theatre. “It was nine-thirty on Christmas Eve …” so begins Arthur Kipps account of the terrible events that dramatically altered his life. AS a young lawyer he was sent north by his London firm to settle the estate of an elderly recluse in isolated, foggy Eelmarsh House. What transpired there has haunted him ever since. Now middle-aged and retired, Kipps hires a theatre and the services of an actor to help him re-enact and thereby hopefully exorcise the ghostly event which befell him many years previously with horrifyingly tragic results. As the story unfolds the house gives up its secrets but unleashes a new terror. This play is a mix of storyteller theatre, actors and audience imagination. WE hope you have yours with you tonight, and that you allow it full rein.
